ABOUT
THE ARTIST
"This
is how I get even with time. Alarm clocks, work clocks -- they all
steal time away. Mine take it back and poke fun." -- Jason Burnett
With
his own brand of humor and whim, Bessemer, Alabama artist, Jason
Burnett transforms salvaged materials into timepieces with forms
ranging from robots and fanciful machines to post-industrial relics.
His careful use of found objects strikes a balance in each work
between the refined and unaffected. And the pieces embody a playfulness
that challenges expectations of what a clock should look like.
"Having
fun is my motivation and inspiration, and I think people respond
to the playfulness in my art. Building the clocks is a way of sneaking
back into fourth-grade art class. I get to cover a table with boxes,
trinkets, paint, clay, and glue, let my imagination run wild, and
build anything I want -- from time machines to Dali dreamscapes."
Jason
believes that every piece must deliver intrigue and delight -- at
first sight and for years to come.
His
award-winning work has been featured in Southern Accents,
Southern Living, The Atlanta Journal, The Birmingham
News, Birmingham Magazine and Decorating Step-by-Step.
